Contact lens users are aware of the danger that comes along wearing it. The eyes are sensitive and this is enough reason for the users to be careful in sanitizing and in cleaning their lenses so as not to infect their eyes and to cause blindness.

So after a whole day of wearing the contacts, it is but proper to clean it using cleansing and sanitizing solution. For some people, especially those that have been all day long, this process of cleaning the contacts is very tiring.

Instead of relaxing their tired body, they still need to clean their lenses. This is a very hassle activity especially for working individuals. It is in this dilemma that disposable contact lenses came into being.

There are different types of disposable lenses. One is the daily disposables and the other is the silicone extended wear that can be disposed as well after use. Daily disposables are contact lens that can only be worn on a daily basis. Meaning to say, once and after you have worn it for one day, you have to throw it right away.

This can be the solution to the problems of many lens users that are too lazy to clean their lens after using it. You can simply dispose of the lens after using it without cleaning it on a regular basis which can be irritating at times especially when you are too tired to do it.

Another benefit that can be derived from wearing daily disposable lens is the lessened dryness of the eye. When lenses are used on a regular basis, it somehow loses its own moist that can even cause dryness of the eye. If this happens, the eyes get irritated and reddish because of an uncomfortable feeling.

With disposable contacts, since the replacement schedule is being maintained on a daily basis, users will not have to worry of whether or not it could be irritating to the eyes. Contact solutions do sometimes contain components that can be exasperating to the eyes especially when one is susceptible to allergy. So if you are one of those that are having problems with eye allergy, then, disposable contact lenses are definitely for you.

Another type of monthly disposable lens is the one that can be worn in an extended period of time. This kind of contacts is something that can be worn in a period of 30 days and nights. Meaning to say, this is not the kind of a lens that must be disposed of right away after use of one day. It can be worn in an extended period of almost one month.

The silicon hydrogel material used in this kind of lens has made it possible for the eye not to dry and get irritated because it prevents the accumulation of and build up of protein that causes eye problems among the users. The only downside of this product is the high price that comes along with the high maintenance of disposing lens.

Astigmatism is one eye condition that causes blurriness on vision regardless of whether the distance is near or far. Some eye conditions or problems are easily corrected with contact lenses. But for those with astigmatism, wearing contacts seems to be a problem as well.

There are many people with astigmatism who have been discouraged in wearing contacts. This is particularly true in the belief that no contact lenses are designed to correct astigmatism and only eye glasses can provide solutions to the problem.

Well, it could be true in the olden days. But now that technology has its say in the world of contact lenses, people with astigmatism can likewise enjoy the benefits of contacts. Now, there are new developments in eye wears and eye lenses for astigmatism and have made it available in the market.

Toric Contact Lenses

Especially designed for astigmatism, toric lens are made from the same materials being used in ordinary contacts. But it has a very important function of correcting astigmatism. It has a special design that will eradicate blurriness of the vision without the hassle of wearing eye glasses. Also, toric lenses that correct astigmatism do not rotate in the eyes. Hence, it is comfortable to wear.

Toric lenses for curative astigmatism come in different types as well depending on what is preferred by the wearers.

One type of toric lens is the silicone hydrogel. This kind of lens is soft in its nature. It is not water-based and because of this, the oxygen transmission to the eye is increased which make it more comfortable to wear. Also, it is a lot thicker as compared to other spherical lenses. With this, many people with astigmatism prefer to wear silicone hydrogel for the comfy of their eyes. This kind of toric lens is now available at leading eye wear shop in all over the world and the increase of its demand is apparently high.

Moreover, mostly than not, silicone hydrogel come with prescription. Eye specialists make it a point to prescribe toric silicone hydrogel on the following conditions:

High prescription on eye conditions

Eye is requiring more oxygen transmission when wearing eye contacts

When discomfort on eyes has resulted after a day of wearing lenses

Excessive dryness of eyes

Unwarranted redness of eyes resulting from wearing contacts

12 to 14 hours duration of wearing contacts

Nowadays, contact lenses have acquired the purpose of eye glasses. It is now made to fit and address all eye conditions for the betterment of eye vision. Admit it or not, eye glasses are good but it sometimes is not fashionable. Why settle for less when you can be fashionable despite your eye condition?

Contact lenses are more than eye fashion. It is being used to help people gain a normal vision and to make the world as clearer as possible.

Traditionally, contact lenses are being used as corrective lenses for the eyes. It is being placed on the cornea of the eye to regulate the grade of eye vision especially for those people who are not comfortable wearing their eye glasses.

Since the grade of eyes varies, the thickness of eye glasses likewise varies. For example, there are people who are wearing super thick eye glasses because they have higher grades of eye vision such as 500 to even 1000 vision.

The higher the grade is; the thicker the eye glasses should be. Hence, it lessens confidence. Because of this, contact lenses came to being. It was Leonardo da Vinci who first introduced the idea of using contact lenses for a better vision.

A brief history of contact lenses reveals that it started of as glass tube that is directly filled with liquid to make the cornea feel comfortable with the contacts. The lenses are specifically composed of clear glass shape that when placed in the cornea of the eye, it corrects the vision.

However, this process did not succeed in gaining popularity because it made blinking very impossible. Impracticality made the lenses impossible to be released for public use. Good thing though, that during the 1960’s “Softlens” replaced the rigid lenses which are very uncomfortable to the eyes. With the development of technology, the year 1999 made an important contribution in the improvement of contact lenses that are being sold in the market. Silicone hydro-gel type of lenses was released to the public market.

Before, lenses for the eyes are not for extended use. But to this date, contacts are now available for extended wear. It can even be worn during sleep for an overnight period. This revolution in the eye wear has enabled more people to enjoy wearing lenses.

Mostly artists and celebrities are the ones wearing this eye wear because it can be used for fashion as well. Since the traditional eye glasses are no longer practical especially in the field of showbiz and fashion world, more and more people are switching to the convenient of lenses. Thus the emergence of cosmetic and novelty colored contact lenses.

It is believe that these contacts will be out in the market for a long time. However, it can be expected that there will be more revolutionizing development on this lenses in the near future. Nothing is impossible with this as well. Probably contacts can be developed into permanent usage in the years to come or probably cooler designs to fit not just the adult but the younger generations as well.

But then again, it has to be remembered that lenses should be given utmost care in order not infect the eyes and cause even more problems. Careful usage must be administered too because if the eyes will be infected by improper use, it may cause blindness to the users. But nonetheless, contacts are for clearer visions.
