Contact lenses are more than eye fashion. It is being used to help people gain a normal vision and to make the world as clearer as possible.
Traditionally, contact lenses are being used as corrective lenses for the eyes. It is being placed on the cornea of the eye to regulate the grade of eye vision especially for those people who are not comfortable wearing their eye glasses.
Since the grade of eyes varies, the thickness of eye glasses likewise varies. For example, there are people who are wearing super thick eye glasses because they have higher grades of eye vision such as 500 to even 1000 vision.
The higher the grade is; the thicker the eye glasses should be. Hence, it lessens confidence. Because of this, contact lenses came to being. It was Leonardo da Vinci who first introduced the idea of using contact lenses for a better vision.
A brief history of contact lenses reveals that it started of as glass tube that is directly filled with liquid to make the cornea feel comfortable with the contacts. The lenses are specifically composed of clear glass shape that when placed in the cornea of the eye, it corrects the vision.
However, this process did not succeed in gaining popularity because it made blinking very impossible. Impracticality made the lenses impossible to be released for public use. Good thing though, that during the 1960’s “Softlens” replaced the rigid lenses which are very uncomfortable to the eyes. With the development of technology, the year 1999 made an important contribution in the improvement of contact lenses that are being sold in the market. Silicone hydro-gel type of lenses was released to the public market.
Before, lenses for the eyes are not for extended use. But to this date, contacts are now available for extended wear. It can even be worn during sleep for an overnight period. This revolution in the eye wear has enabled more people to enjoy wearing lenses.
Mostly artists and celebrities are the ones wearing this eye wear because it can be used for fashion as well. Since the traditional eye glasses are no longer practical especially in the field of showbiz and fashion world, more and more people are switching to the convenient of lenses. Thus the emergence of cosmetic and novelty colored contact lenses.
It is believe that these contacts will be out in the market for a long time. However, it can be expected that there will be more revolutionizing development on this lenses in the near future. Nothing is impossible with this as well. Probably contacts can be developed into permanent usage in the years to come or probably cooler designs to fit not just the adult but the younger generations as well.
But then again, it has to be remembered that lenses should be given utmost care in order not infect the eyes and cause even more problems. Careful usage must be administered too because if the eyes will be infected by improper use, it may cause blindness to the users. But nonetheless, contacts are for clearer visions.
